In The Valley 11

Jodie answered the door; it was Rob.
"Where the hell have you been? I've been alone all day thanks to you."
Rob pulled a greasy twenty out of his pocket and slapped it into her hand.
"That's the rest of it." He turned and began tramping across the yard, his sweatstained shirt clinging to his frame.
Jodie looked at the crumpled picture of Andrew Jackson in her hand. He looked at her with knowing eyes. She imagined him winking, and it made her smile.
Rob stopped in the grass before he hit the street He crammed his right hand into the appropriate pants pocket and started back, his left arm swinging lazily as his hand hung limp.
Jodie held out her hand, she already knew what was coming.
Rob placed a .45 slug in her palm, its nose smashed in from a previous impact. He kissed her fingers, and stood on the porch. He was a full head taller than she, and she stared at his scruffy throat.
"Do you still have the scar?" He asked, placing his hand in the small of her back.
"You know I do, you saw it this morning." She nodded her forehead into his chest and sighed.
"Do you need anything from the store? I was just going." He looked at her ponytail, and kissed the crown of her head.
She entwined her fingers in his, the bill still in her palm.
"A jar of mayonnaise"
They kiss.
